1694 Copper v. Region 1D
Case No: 1694
2014
Copper was discharged for falsification of documents after she wrote her supervisor’s name on a document that required the signature of her employer. Copper’s previous misappropriation of local union funds may have influenced management’s decision to treat this incident as serious misconduct, but the union had no control over management’s perception of Copper’s character or credibility. Copper has not identified any lapse in the union’s representation of her following her discharge. Representative Sherfield explained that management has treated falsification of documents as just cause for discharge on previous occasions. He withdrew the grievance because there was no violation of the collective bargaining agreement that would provide a basis for an arbitrator to order Copper’s reinstatement.
